I Just Want to Celebrate

Today I am grateful for the friends and support I have in recovery. I am also grateful for a nice cup of coffee to enjoy in our recliners with my husband in the early mornings.

I am thinking of the tragic loss of firefighters in Arizona and the grieving family and friends they leave behind. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

I heard the Rare Earth song "I Just Want to Celebrate" on the radio the other day. "I just want to celebrate another day of livin', I just want to celebrate another day of life."  There you have it. A blog post waiting to be written.

Watch and listen to a YouTube video of the song here. If the hair of the band members didn't give it away, this song is from the early 1970's. A bit of trivia about the group: they were the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that had only white members. The song peaked at #7 in 1971. I wasn't even seven years old yet, but I was already into music. It was the radio and my older siblings' records. It wasn't music on demand like it is now. I still appreciate the randomness of the radio. The thrill of a favorite song coming on by chance. The younger generations are missing that thrill.

I just want to celebrate another day of living. That is why I practice gratitude. It helps me recognize that today is a gift, not a guarantee. Such an attitude changes how I approach the minutes and hours in each day.

As the loss of the firefighters fighting the Arizona wildfire reminds us, life is precious. Today is precious. Treat it as such.
